Dope Sounds: Solange

So I came upon these great videos of Solange performing live. I was sad that she came to Cleveland this past week to the House of Blues and I found out the day before. :( She's so much better live than on CD which is a big feat now a days. So she covered songs like MGMT's "Electric Feel" and "Love Lockdown" and puts her own feel to it. All of which are featured in this video where she sings "Would've Been the One" off of her album.



I then watched a video of her performing one of my favorite songs "Cosmic Journey" where she adds electro-pop touches at the end.



And today I came upon a video of covering "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay. She is so AMAZING!!!



Her album was[is] one of the most inspiring albums of '08 for me. It didn't[doesn't] sound like anything out there[right now]. Like a breath of fresh air. You can tell that the sound she created was just a mix of her influences, with her own spin on it. It's showing me that there's a place for me yet in the music world. As my music tastes change and evolve, so does the material that I write, and the kind of music artist that I want to be.

I just LOVE watching different musial artist perform. It inspires me and even fuels me to make my dream a reality.

The saga continues....

So what is Abstract Expressions?....

So with the first two blogs, they weren't really about me. They were about topics that I were passionate about: FASHION & MUSIC together, and then a blog about race. I will state again that I wasn't as motivated as I thought I would've been. Fashion and music are basically my life....but it's not what I'm all about. I love different types of expression like photography, poetry, writing, and drawing. My influences and the things that I like that inspire me as an artist are not typical coming from a black girl. I listen and enjoy different types of music. I want to be a singer, and I'm observing that if I want to stay in the music world for more than a couple of years, I have to be different, I have to be diverse, I have to be creative. So I broadened my horizions and opened my mind to so many different things and it's really helped to shape me into the type of musical artist I want to be, and the person I want to become.

When creating and naming this blog, it took awhile trying to come up with the right name that reflected me as a person and reflected what I wanted to do on here. So my sister ask me if I could describe myself in a word or a phrase what would it be? That was a hard one because there are too many, but yet not enough words to describe me. I'm complex, bratty, vain, self-consious, creative, singer, writer, silly, different, weird, unique, standoffish at times and the list goes on and on...and "Ya DoN't StOp..Lol. How I think and the things that spark my intrests are so abstract and so off the wall, "ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONS " stands for and explains everything that I'm about in 2 words. Abstract expressions is said through everything from poetry to prose, to fashion, music and art, all which I am very passionate about. This blog will be about new music I've found, new fashions, the newest things in architecture, technology, my opinions about the world, and just me actin a fool.

HELLOO WORLD!!!

This is my first post on my 3rd blog. Today I offically deleted both of the blogs that I had. I got tired of them and just had no motavation to keep them updated like I thought. I hope I'll stick this one out and actually suceed in this one. So why blog? I've been so tired of MySpace, the same 'ol same 'ol boring stuff so I decided why not take up blogging again. Plus I've been reading blogs on here for the past couple of days and I'm hooked. There are so many cool people on here and that inspired me to give it a try again. I've also heard that many people know nothing about me. I will admit I am a very private person who is interested and passionate about a spectrum of subjects. I'm all about expression and creativity and stretching the mind intellectually, and that's is what sets me apart from many. I would love to meet kindred spirits who love music, fashion, and art the same way I do. It's very true, nobody at school knows that much about me. It's because I loose people year after year, and it gets tiresome letting them know the real things about me because it's like,"they're gonna leave anyway so why even try". This is my attitude with people now. It's so hard to trust people completely, even my best friend. So I keep my distance. But now I wanna put myself out there and show the WORLD who I am and look at the world through the eyes of MOI, this blog right here is real talk..Ladies and [Gentle]Men, buckle up cuz it's gonna be a heck of a ride...
